National Bank of Romania has registered Alior Bank’s Branch as a foreign credit institution. This step takes further the partnership between the Romanian branch of Alior Bank and the operator Telekom Romania Mobile Communications from the Deutsche Telekom Group in their aim to offer clients access to modern banking products and services.
Alior Bank successfully completed the passporting procedure and has been registered as a branch of a foreign credit institution in barely five months from signing the agreement with the Romanian telecom operator. The Bank’s Branch in Romania will operate in a business model similar to current cooperation between Alior Bank and T-Mobile Poland. The current project is the first step in the direction of Alior’s expansion to foreign markets.
Registration of the Alior Bank’s Branch in Romania enables us to commence the last stage of deployment of the joint project of Alior Bank and Telekom Romania Mobile Communications. Our main goal is to leverage the business potential given by the cooperation between a bank and a telecommunications operator and repeating outstanding results of cooperating with T-Mobile in the Polish market. Our advantage is the experience gained during over two years of cooperation with the Deutsche Telekom Group – says Magdalena Proga-Stępień, Head of T-Mobile Banking Services Department.

The works on the projects deployment are progressing as planned. Upon launch individual customers shall gain access to a broad range of modern deposit and credit products adjusted to the needs and specifics of the Romanian market, and to attractive bundle offers combining banking and telecommunication services. As a next step the Bank shall expand the offer with solutions for small business customers. Alior Bank is a dynamically developing universal bank, leader in innovation. The Bank commenced operations in November 2008 and since that time is continuously reinforcing its market position through breakthrough products and services, setting new standards in Polish banking. In December 2013, the Bank entered into a strategic alliance with T-Mobile, leading global telecommunications operator. As an effect, in May 2014, T-Mobile Banking Services delivered by Alior Bank became operational – a unique, at a European scale, project of cooperation between a bank and a telecommunications company. One of the effects of the successful joint operations in Poland was expanding the alliance with the global telecommunications operator by another market in Central Europe. In August 2015, Alior Bank signed an agreement with the Romanian operator Telekom Romania Mobile Communications from the Deutsche Telekom Group. The project of establishing the Bank’s branch in the territory of Romania is the first step towards building a strong position of Alior Bank in the international market.
